India’s famous Kathak dancer Pandit Birju Maharaj has passed away at the age of 83.
Birju Maharaj’s son has given the news of his death on social media.
He wrote, “We are deeply saddened to learn that today we have lost the most dear member of our family, Pandit Birjuji Maharaj.”
Birju Maharaj died of a double heart attack on Sunday evening.
Singer Adnan Sami also expressed grief over the demise of Birju Maharaj and wrote, “We are saddened to learn about the passing away of the great Kathak dancer Pandit Birju Maharajji. We have lost a unique institution in the field of art. He has influenced generations with his talent. May his soul rest in peace.”
